Ermita today has an abundance of live music venues featuring Filipino bands. Many of these are free while others have a small cover charge. I highly recommend going to see a few of these bands. Many are excellent.
I am sure you will be impressed by the sound they produce. Filipino bands and performers are known for being the best in Asia and it is common to find Filipino bands in places like Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand.
The music played is about 99% covers of popular music including many of the latest hits. Occasionally you encounter a band that plays a few numbers from another genre but generally all the numbers will either be romantic ballads or upbeat dance numbers. Some are played with real energy and many of the audience will be up on the dance floor.
Even most of the new bars featured here include live music including LA Cafe (upstairs), Amazonia and G-Point.
