Contributions about Firehouse Bar
Years ago there was a dancer by the name of Edith Go who worked there. A Chinese half breed, she did wonders on the “Pole” that was installed from the ceiling and bolted to the floor. Wearing a bikini she would get in all sorts of positions that would have you panting and drooling in no time at all. Many men tried to “Bar fine” her (The price you paid to get a girl out of the bar for the night. Back in those days it was about U.S. $20.00 and you got her for all night) but she wouldn’t go. One guy even offered 20,000.00 pesos which was about U.S. $1,000.00. She made that each night just from the “Ladies Drinks” hopeful gents would buy her. Eventually she ended up married to an Australian guy, and was never heard from again. Expat - 2003
Don Morgan was manager of all three incarnations of the Firehouse. He is back in the US teaching, possibly the best bar manager ever. Had a great store of jokes, never forgot a face, never unhappy & absolutely like a father to his dancers John L. - 10th Jan 2004
